Kids need help coping with all the confusion and anxiety these days, especially when they are sick. This 25 year project started with Kira surviving a 50 % chance of survival with cancer.
Wellness for Children Project includes videos, books, puppets, huggable characters to help kids.
Kira Carrillo Corser has worked for 30 years to create award winning
projects to help heal discouraged and disadvantaged communities,
families and individuals. She has designed projects funded by The
California Wellness Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation,
The March of Dimes and others. She was with PBS for 10 years,
including Mr. Roger’s programs. Kira has authored 7 books, 4
nationally traveled exhibitions and taught 8 years at CSU Monterey
Bay. She painted the Healing Angels series and co-wrote the Wellness
for Children Parent/Teacher Guide, co-founded Compassionate
Arts in Action serving communities nationwide. She has produced
over 150 videos showing that the power of art makes a difference
in designing innovative educational projects that create lasting change.
Lisa Parsons RN, APRN-BC co-wrote the Wellness for Children Parent/Teacher Guide and working on a professional version. She has 34 years experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and a Certified Stress Management Consultant in educator roles for pediatrics, primary care, family practice, emergency care
and stress management. She is a grandmother to 10 kids under the age of 7 and
loves composing music, painting and co-directing PostsForPeaceAndJustice.org.
Stress, fear and pain are part of life. We know that learning skills for coping promotes optimal wellness. Everything we feel and do relates to our well-being and directly affects our actions and emotions. In order to subdue stress, reduce illness, and ensure positive moments we have created a series of books, videos and other easy creative activities promoting wellness.
To achieve optimal wellness, we encourage you and your child to apply these skills towards every possible endeavor. You can apply a wellness approach towards your environment, community, career, belief systems, physical activities, self care, healthy eating, self esteem, and creative activities.
